WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT you might be asking yourself as you stare slackjawed in terror at the massive skeleton in this picture. Is it some sort of terrible werebear? A mutantly massive honey badger? No, and no. That my friends is a MOTHERFUCKING GROUND SLOTH.
Above is a reconstruction of one of these prehistoric bad boys. These things could be up to six meters long and seventeen feet tall. Those claws? Up to a foot long in some species. From studying the density of the bones, especially on the hind legs and joints, scientists have determined these massive herbivores were more than capable of holding their own against predators.
Although the ground sloth is now extinct, some cryptozoologists cite is as a possible explanation behind many South American cryptids.
